Fitness Influencer Series

This series is all about how to better utilize your resources to be a person of influence in any industry. I mainly go through the steps with fitness as a baseline, but the principles here can be applied to any industry.  Whether you’re just starting out as a fitness influencer or want to improve what you currently do, this guide will help you do just that.

How to Become a Fitness Influencer

Each of these steps is outlined in depth. I highly recommend going through them in order. Otherwise, feel free to return back and refer to any step you need along your journey to greater influence.

Find a niche: Who do you want to influence?

Who you want to influence will play a big role in how you develop yourself as a public figure. This isn’t something you need to decide right now, but you should be thinking about it along the way. If you already know your target audience, then write it down. Here are some ideas that you can use as a starting point.

Here is a list of general ideas for targeting a niche.

  • Equipment Categories
  • Nutritional Preferences
  • Lifestyle and Aesthetics
  • Medical Conditions

Having a niche helps build a common message across your profiles and website. You become a brand yourself. When you find one target group that you can be passionate about inspiring, it will come naturally and your online presence will flourish.

A Website is a Strong Foundation

Having a website not only builds credibility, but it makes you accessible to even larger markets. It powerfully integrates platforms with media limitations such as Instagram or Twitter. While those are great social platforms, neither allows you to mix images, audio, video, and sound together with larger amounts of text for descriptive content. A website can literally be thought of as a “web” of your personal brand.

Blogging Leads to Larger Influence

Adding a blog to your site can be a powerful tool. It allows you to express yourself and share your passions while simultaneously providing access to acquired knowledge. You can position yourself as an authority in the industry by creating value for your readers. This will also enable you to build more online exposure as you enhance your online portfolio.

Instagram: Powerful Fitness Platform

In a world of mountainous volumes of information, images go a long way. Instagram drives more engaged traffic than any other social channel. It allows you to engage with your audience on the social platform where they will be more likely to come back again.

Content Provides Value to Your Audience

Content is King. It may sound cliche, but it’s true. Companies don’t typically just have people knock on their door and buy their products. Likely the same will occur with your influence. People won’t just ask you to inspire them. They need to find you. The more content you create that provides value to your potential readers, the more of them will subscribe and return to see what more you have to teach them.

Other Social Media

The journey doesn’t end on your blog or on Instagram. YouTube, Pinterest, and Facebook are only three more of the many social platforms out there. Each of them may play a key role in your influence, but you must select where to place your valuable time. Being spread too thin may hinder your ability to grow, but for some it may be best to utilize all avenues available.

Engagement Will Bring Loyalty

People are people. When you see views on your website, or subscribers on a YouTube channel, or followers on Instagram those numbers are real people with real feelings. Your following is like a fan club. They recognize your personal brand when they see your profile or content. Engaging with these people on a personal level (usually in comments, but other times in direct communication) will increase their trust and loyalty. They’ll be more likely to tell others about you and grow your influence even more.

Collaboration Improves Your Network

Living in a bubble won’t help you influence others. It may sound obvious, but think about all the other influencers out there. Don’t you all share a similar goal? The goal may take different forms, but it’s all about influencing others to become better in some way, shape, or form. Collaborate with others who share your vision, and this will ultimately add more value to your followers and to the community as a whole.
